An expensive week, but it could have been worse

Got an email sale flyer last Friday from Midwest Photo Exchange listing several items they had on sale. One item was Eneloop AA rechargeable batteries at 4 for $9.99 (regularly $19.99 although they can be had at verious places for less) so I order (4) 4-packs.

Got another email from them yesterday morning showing a 1-day sale on Photoshop CS6 for $259. I don't really like Photoshop but for that price how could I turn it down

Yep, it's the whole version; regularly $669 on sale until yesterday at 5:00 for $249. I don't know if I'll use it or sell it but for that price it was a steal.

That CS5/Lightroom 4 deal was amazing. It was in the $300.00 range for both LR 4 and CS6. Just crazy!

Makes a guy wonder just how badly he is being GOUGED for CS6 at the "regular,everyday,highway robbery" price, doesn't it! So,let's get this straight: a dealer can sell both Lightroom 4 AND PS CS for under three hundred dollars, and still make a profit. Hmmm...I wonder what they pay Adobe for the eighty-nine cent piece of media and the 20 cent cardboard box and the bits of computer code that's burned onto the disc... Hmmmm....

Oh, wait, I think I hear the board's biggest Adobe defender responding now, as I type...yes, yes, he's formulating a rationalization for Adobe's pricing and treadmill-like "upgrade" program right NOW...

Most of the major manufacturers, Adobe in included, dictate how much resellers can discount their products these days. If the dealers don't play by the rules then they are dropped from the reseller network, and that's a big deal to them. I have no doubt that Adobe announced a 1-day sale, and it may have only been to specific resellers for whatever reason. I know that Adorama also had it on sale yesterday for $249 but I didn't see anything on B&H's web site.

Stop and think about how little it costs to sell a copy of any software and the profits are astronomical. Sure they have initial development costs but that was mostly defrayed on the FIRST version. Since then there have only been bug fixes and "Improvements" (many of which are questionable). $650 or so for a copy of ANY consumer software is ridiculous, which is why I've avoided Photoshop for so many years. Well, that's part of it, Adobe's "Gouge the users every time a new version is available" game is the other part.

Look at the bright side - at least it all comes pre-built

Last thing I've bought I've still got to wash it - dry it - clean it - assemble it - give it dentures - stuff the cracks with green stuff - spray it

Then consider if I've any chance of painting it!

I was going OK until it got to the "Stuff the cracks with green stuff" and then I decided I wasn't sure if I wanted to know what it was

But you are right. All I had to do was install it, then uninstall it because Windows griped about something. Then reinstall it. And now I get to figure out the nuances in it that have been added since Version 4 (the last version I used).

More great deals coming from adobe. Peek at adobe's past few quarterly earnings reports, they're desperate to bring in any revenue they can based on financial performance. Software is on the supply and demand curve and the demand hasn't been going their way.
