I've noticed quite a while back that the images I post here lose sharpness when uploaded to Flickr. No big deal, they were sharp enough for display here. For instance, the image seen below is so sharp in raw format that it'll cut your retina's if you look at it too long. Here and on flickr, it's softened up considerably. On my computer , viewing in lightroom, the beak on the bird is detailed to the max. The whiskers to the left side of the beak are so sharp they look like needles. The talon (bottom left, the birds right foot) is extremely sharp, but not after upload. When I convert from raw to jpeg i lose nothing, until that is, I upload to a image host. Question: Is there any image host where images retain sharpness?
I posted this larger than I normally do for reference. I check sharpness in images by viewing at 100%. This isn't 100% but it's close enough to see what I mean. At 100% in lightroom, while not the greatest image I ever captured, this is razor sharp.

Sorry, but that's not a Raptor, it looks like a Mockingbird. I can't comment about the loss of sharpness due to uploading. I post my images to my own website and never have any troubles.

Yeah I guess it's not a raptor since it's not a bird of prey.

Flickr actually adds a sharpening pass on upload. Look it up.
So, your case is interesting.

Yeah I know. I mean it looks sharp here but nothing like what I see when I view it on my computer in lightroom. There is a fair bit of difference. Oh well, I don't know. It's a head scratcher.

anyone else see the demon face in this photo?

If you wouldn't mind, could you point that out?

Not until you mentioned it.... whoa that is seriously scary.

It's very large, behind the bird, takes up the top right hand side of the photo.

OP, did you take this photo through a window? Wondering if maybe it could be a distorted reflection...

Oh sh__ I see it now. Looks like a skeletons head? No the photo wasn't wasn't taken through a window. I was sitting out in a field where I know they come to roost in the evening. To do a bird shoot , the bird has to almost be on top of you, otherwise they are the size of a dime in the frame. I was about 12 feet from this one after waiting for the opportunity for about 3 hours.
It's not easy.

Very creepy. The shot of the bird looks nice, but that creepy face in the background is just... *shudder*.

Being serious though, it looks like a bunch of small tree branches that, when blurred, just happen to line up perfectly to create that background face.

Still creepy once you realize it's there though, lol.

You musta been sitting on spooky land...pissed the ghosts off with all your gadgetery:lmao:
you weren't serious right about this being a raptor right? lmao

I may have gone just a tad off the deep end with the raptor comment. lol

should go for lots of money on ebay :sexywink:
