Exposing to the right thread closure?

Can you please inform the TPF members why a thread that did not get out of hand was locked? Two people were having a discussion that quite frankly was educational. All threads go off track. It's a conversation. Conversations do that.

In case anyone was wondering...
I locked the thread because a lot of posts were getting reported. A LOT. Plus, things had started to get personal which never ends well. The OP has been gone for a bit and had long since had their question answered.

If anyone wants to rehash the "discussion" that encompassed the thread, they are more than welcome to start a new thread on it.

I thought it was a good thread too. I'm sure the mods get a ridiculous amount of whining they have to sort through though. I get their frustration, but you shouldn't crush a thread if it hasn't gone off the rails. Whether you think it's going to or not.

The writing was on the walls - with no input from the OP it was a choice most of us mods would have made. Multiple pages and with several people starting to weigh in with childish remarks. Typically experience teaches us that cleaning a thread at that point oft doesn't work - the damage is done and any attempt to clean just results in more backlash.

The subject itself is not banned nor restricted in any way so if people want to have a separate thread focusing on the more advanced discussion go for it .

I get it believe me, I just hope that people realize their whining creates that environment. I can't, for the life of me, understand why people get upset over what someone else writes on an Internet forum.
