Fall on the Range

Fall colors are fleeting in this part of the country. People normally think of aspen cliches with mountain vistas in the background. There are a lot of colors in the lower elevations if you know where to look, though it doesn't last very long and it's hard to spot from the side of the road. Junipers and Cedars contrast with rich yellows and browns, currants offer a wide range of color, starting green, then yellow, then finally brilliant red. The sagebrush winters over a light silvery-blue, harmonious with the grey bare branches.

After a few snow storms, which have just started earlier this week, the landscape remains asleep in monotone until spring.
