I'm assuming those are crosses and flowers, etc - next to the tree but they are too far off and without color I can't really tell for sure if that's what I'm looking at. If it were me I'd probably crop this just a bit differently, bring the tree trunk in a bit closer so you can see some additional detail as to what is at it's base. Going back to the color version might help a lot as well.

I like the concept, though a bit dreary but eye catching.

I like it. I recognize instantly what it is, though, and once that's in place you see that everything is as it ought to be.

My one quibble is that it seems to be quite soft, to no particular purpose. It looks like the focus was set to a few feet in front of the camera, so the foreground is a bit soft, some of the road it nice and sharp, and then important stuff behind is soft again. I think could work well with a different rendering but this relatively "straight" rendering seems to want a sharp picture.

I too recognized it immediately, but I think the title help a lot with that.

The skid mark is certainly part of the story, but having 2 skid marks might make the image stronger.

A longer focal length lens would allow some compression of the image, optically bringing the tree towards the camera.

Thanks for the feedback. I do have other shots I can post later when I'm at my computer, more focused on the memorial at the base of the tree. I was hoping with this image that the viewers focus would land on the skid mark, and then to the memorial deeper in the background.

Unfortunately there was only one skid mark from the vehicle, though I really wish there had been two. I think it would have made for a much stronger photo.

I saw it as a skid mark that leads into the tree...

needs to be brought out more if anything.

oops, I though the skid mark was a shadow.
NOW the foreground makes more sense to me.
I like the overall photo much better now.

When I was originally going through these pictures I tried for a really long time in Lightroom to darken that skid mark. I just couldn't get it to look right, so I ended up just deepening all of the blacks, and that was as good as I could get it.




Unfortunately, none of these skid marks are related to the accident.



I do like this one, but I feel that without the skid marks it is just another picture -- I don't think it tells as much of a story.
