Few Pics of the Collie in grass

I'm not seeing why you need shutter at 1250, iso at 1600 and f16 on aperture. All those seem extremely high on a sunny day.
If you raise the shutter to 1250, this will cause the image to darken and you'll end up raising the iso and creating noise. The same is true with f16.
On a sunny day with your dog the readings should be around 1/250, iso 100, and aperture at f8 or so. You'll need to watch the meter for more accurate settings but not as extreme as what you had.

thanks Vince .. i am going to go out and take some new ones so your advice on settings was perfect timing ..thanks

You have a beautiful model to work with and I am definitely seeing improvement from your first photos but, for me, your subject is too centred.

Not to be harsh, but remember the Action Dog Pics thread? Same thing, even less action, with no advice taken from it. If you accidentally shot at ISO1600, F16, and 1/1250 and thought they came out "fairly good for sudden photos" Why post them here? Composition, Exposure still apply. I can understand Facebook or Flickr. I dunno, maybe I am in a crabby mood from a frustrating day at work.

I think they are much better and i thank you for all your points ... you are all correct.. i should not have posted the others.. but if i did not then you would not have been here to help me set it straight.. i am far from there yet..but the little things i have been discovering about my camera this week is all because you all took the time out to say something..which made me go back and rethink.. not always right in my thinking ..but still i would discover something i missed.. the last shot is when i told them to pose.. i meant together not 20 feet apart..lol

I believe I am seeing improvement. I do want to see you work with the lighting. The last ones posted seem alittle under exposed because you were testing the settings I had given you for sun light but they're in the shade now so did you use your meter to adjust for proper exposure.
BTW what camera are you using?

thanks very much.. i am using Nikon D5000... and to tell you the truth.. i could not see the camera settings very well.. it was the way the sun was going down... i tried to get out there right away but shade fell before i could.. tommorrow i will be all set to do sunny pics.. but i definitly think i am getting better..also at adjusting the settings.. thanks Vince

Your focus is much better, but you still need to work on framing your subject better. Imagine the image if you were at your Doberman's eye level with your Collie just peeking around him still in background. I think in that case cutting the front paws off would've be fine.
