FG problem

My wife's Nikon FG is experiencing an issue. Taking a shot, the shutter didn't seem to open, and the mirror raised, but didn't go down. I can push the mirror down by hand, but it flips back up. Ideas?

I can offer nothing other than stop touching the mirror!!!!

Two possible solutions - clean the battery contacts and be sure you have fresh batteries installed , or send it to a repair shop for cleaning/adjusting. In the case of the last option that might be more then the value of the body.

I have a heavily worn FE2 with the same problem. Mirror's stuck up, shutter won't fire, even with fresh batteries and cleaned contacts. Won't fire on "B" either. It's not worth the expense of repair because of its heavily worn condition. The cost to fix an FG will probably be more than a clean replacement camera.

I also had a similar problem. Mirror seems to raise but shutter won't fire. The little arms that raise the mirror may be dirty. With the lens off, press the shutter button. If it doesn't fire, GENTLY raise the mirror a little bit more...use a q-tip. If it then fires, it is the mirror. With mine, the mirror was not fully retracting, even though it appeared so. The little arms that pull up the mirror w ere dirty. That was the issue with me. I had it cleaned at a camera shop and now it is absolutely fine. Cost is up to you.
