The weather has been so horrid here lately..mid 20s in April! Today was near 60 and tomorrow will be in the 30s again. Wacky weather....

Anyways, I decided to dust off my camera and go walk around with my telephoto in hopes of getting a good shot of a bird. I had to fix my weather station early this morning and there was a ton of birds around and soon as I go walk around this afternoon, they've all disappeared haha.

I was looking out in field that's next to my house and heard something pecking and sure enough I turn to my left and looked up and there was a Downy Woodpecker right next to me! He looked at me once and didn't care and took like 30 pics of him and this was my favorite one out of the bunch. They move rather quickly.

I'm happy with it.

Nikon D610 + 70-300 VR @ 300mm, 1/1000th, f/8 & ISO 1800

Fixed. I didn't even notice that, whoops.

Very nice shot...but, wildlife bug? yes, for sure, but worse :eek-73:, you will get GAS - Gear Acquisition Syndrome - the 70-300 will only get so close and you will undoubtedly want to get closer, so then its a 600mm and a LensCoat, then a tripod and gimbal head to go with it and before you know it :biggrin-93:, you will need a bigger pack for the new gear and then probably a new truck to carry all the new gear around in and get into those "off road areas" for the big birds - well all right maybe not a new truck, but you will definitely need a new camera to give you those higher res images (the D5 of course) and a new pair of Swarovski binoculars to check out the subject before you take that shot and all this started with a great desire to get just one good bird shot. :thumbyo:

Just kidding, or am I? :confused-55:

Ut OH and I thought you where thinking of dumping your D610 gear if I recall correctly. Now I think you will be adding to it,the wildlife bug bites hard.

Then of course you need the camo lens cover for your lens, and then a blind, and a bigger truck to haul that around in...

lol

I didn't catch the wildlife bug because I can't afford any of that stuff so I'm immune to it unfortunately.

For sure - immune? Time will tell - we'll see. :biggrin-93:

Wait until you start thinking "Now if I don't buy new tires for the car this year, then maybe, just maybe I can get that new...but you are immune - right :rolleyes-39:? I know how it works - I've been there - just bought a new 4Runner to get to the landscapes off the beaten, very beaten track :icon_thumright: .

Regardless, looking forward to seeing more of your images. :smile-new:

I don't have a car.
:biggrin-93: Then I guess that might be just a bit higher on the priority list than camera gear.
