Photos NOT OK to edit

Finally got to take my new Nikon 55-300mm lens out for a spin today and managed to get my first ever shot of a Robin!

FIRSTS are always cool! Pretty good shot of the robin.

Not bad. I would maybe use some tilt shift blurring in PS to help with the mixed DOF branches on the right side.

I was unaware of this feature in PS, it looks great after having a quick look at it on Lynda.com, thanks for the feedback :)

It was so unexpected, it just jumped out of no where and I'm sure it knew it was getting its photo taken as it moved closer to me lol.

Can I ask what you did to get this look? Cropping out a lot of those branches to the right makes a massive difference.

Yep, I cropped it so the focus is more on the bird; I used a brightness layer in photoshop to make the bird stand out more; I used a high pass layer for sharpening the image; and I used a tilt shift blur to blur the branches out on the right side.

Your skill and depth of post processing can make a HUGE difference in your photography.

Yeah it's something I need to get more in to, I've started learning Lightroom as I've never used it before, but I've read its a great tool to supplement with Photoshop. I only ever use Photoshop for creating textures for 3D assets and that about as far as my skills go with Photoshop. At the moment I'm just using the PS RAW application to edit my photos.

Lightroom and Photoshop will become your best friends if you stick with photography!

Very nice, one of my favourite birds to photograph here in Europe.
