As a preliminary suggestion, you're more likely to get some feedback if you post the actual photos here, rather than links. After a long day at work, no one wants to do extra clicking (first world problem, I know, but that's the way it is). Host your photos on another site like Flikr or Photobucket and link them here.

I wouldn't worry if you only have a P&S. Probably the most important thing to get right is composition. Technical faults will be forgiven if the photo is composed well.

The stairs shot is alright, and the curve of the path is visually interesting (the eye naturally follows the line. The shot of the mountain isn't totally inspiring because of the negative space at the top, and the mountain itself is lost in the atmospheric haze. It has potential though.

You had the right idea with the stairs shot. I'm not convinced the square crop has done it many favours but as Fishpaste said, the curve of the stairs does provide some interest and a usable leading line. Unfortunately the sky at the top of the shot is very overexposed to the point where branches have disappeared into the light!

The exposure in the mountain shot is pretty much spot on. There are some nice colours and the subject is nice. However, again as Fishpaste said, there is a lot of negative space in the top half of the shot. You could have pitched either up or down so that the edge of the tree line hit either the bottom or top line of thirds to make it more visually pleasing.

It would also be worth either investing in a good processing software or Googling GIMP. The mountain shot has a blue cast which could easily be removed with some half-decent software.
