fishing at sunrise

Taken at a local lake at sunrise. Any tips on dealing with washed out color in sunrise photos would be appreciated.

Nice picture!

Washed out color on sunrises can be caused sometimes by lens issues, like a thin, almost invisible film on the rear element of the lens, or the front element of the lens. ALL filters on the front of the lens should be removed when shooting toward the sun, unless the filter is necessary (polarizer or Neutral Density filter,etc.).

"Some" degree of color washout can actually be okay. I think at times we sort of expect there to be some slight haze when looking into the sun.

One can also sometimes "juice" the saturation and vibrance a little bit, and goose up the Clarity slider a tiny bot, and overcome some color washout.

I didn't use a filter and I'm not sure if there is anything wrong with my lens, but I did fiddle with the saturation, vibrance, and clarity. Maybe I should have done more. I guess I just expected it to be less washed out. Thanks for the info!

I agree - I like it with the haze. If you look near the top and see the light rays through the haze, having the foreground be clear would feel a little contradictory to me.
