I found these two websites that may be of interest for those who like DIY things, or are just looking to save money and get pretty good results.

1) The first is a simple, simple flash diffuser for the Canon Digital Rebel. The website says it's for the XT's, but I'm sure this will work with any SLR with a built in flash. I have had good results with this simple piece of paper. Check out this website:

Here are some sample pictures to give this DIY flash diffuser some backup

With Flash Diffuser:

Both pictures were taken with a Canon 350D w/ Canon 50mm f/1.8 lense. I bumped up the flash compensation to +1 to get best results with the flash diffuser.

2) The second is a soft box for those who has a flash that connects to the hotshoe of your SLR. It's a great writeup, full of pictures, but it's in German, so here is the Google translated website:

http://translate.google.com/transla...ox/softbox.htm&hl=en&lr=&client=safari&rls=en

Looks cool to me, but I still havent tried it..it looks like a lot of work

Hope you guys enjoy!

You're gonna have to do some modifying on your D50. My roommate has one, and it doesnt have that ledge to keep the diffuser in. To counter that, you can have the bottom end of the diffuser stick out a little bit, so it'll go in that little divot of the bottom of the flash. You'll figure it out i'm sure :)
