Focusing in low light

Great info ! Thank you I love to know how stuff works

But how do you guys focus when something is farther away and there is limited lighting?
If you just set aperture to f22, focus few feet away and set the time to 1min or whatever is needed, would that work?

We rarely, if ever, need/want to shoot in that kind of a situation.
