Frontier Days

Met up with some friends to attend the "Alabama Frontier Days" at Ft Toulouse (Wetumpka, AL). Billed as one of the largest and most authentic living history events in Alabama, it's meant to represent the south as it transitioned from Creek Indian lands to military forts and civilian homesteads during the period 1700 to 1820. There were tons of individuals dressed in period costumes portraying life as it would have been back then, and answering questions. It really was a great event, though we probably picked the wrong day. There were busloads of school kids there, so it made it difficult to squeeze in to get decent photos. Some of the quicker edits from the day.

Footnote: Even the babies were in period clothing (though I admit that I was surprised that they had disposable diapers back then). I guess maybe there's a limit to how "in character" you can be. LOL

Thank you @Granddad I was amazed at the volunteers. Not only were they in authentic clothing, but they assumed the speech and mannerism of the time. As you moved among them it was like watching a slice of history unfold as they discussed their task at hand, mixing daily banter with informative information. Like the kids gathered round I found myself so absorbed that I forgot the camera. They really do a good job coordinating with the schools. In one of the vendor stands I overheard a little boy telling his friend "look this is the hat that guy was wearing in the video we watched", then went on to quote the scene from the video.
