Just came across the article, originally from Reuters, seems Fujifilm are enjoying a run on their X100's put down in large part (according to this) by the young social media addicted trendy crowd who view its looks as a useful fashion accessory.

I guess it helps that it's also a very accomplished camera system as well...

Fujifilm once struggled to sell cameras. Now, it can't keep up with demand

Last time I looked Fujifilm's financial statement did show growth in imaging and Instax/digital cameras. Haven't bothered to see what % of their revenue this is but Fujifilm is a very diverse company. Cameras, per se, are not their main business. Fujifilm's design teams were given carte blanche over a decade ago to innovate--and how! The X-Pro, X-T and X-100 series cameras were mirrorless gamechangers. Long experience with optics led to superb lenses. Great customer support made a difference, too.
The X-100 cameras strike those who never shot them as pricey fashion accessories. Yup, cash registers said otherwise. Don't self-identify as a fashionista but my beloved X-100T sure sees steady use.

Never lusted for any version of the X100 cuz I really want interchangeable lenses. Even tho I often carry a compact camera with just the one prime lens thats on it, I want to choose that "lens du jour" per my "whim du jour".

But now ... this whole "fashion accessory" thing leaves me self conscious about my own little black and chrome (and red and black) retro looking compact ILCs. I avoided the black on black style as "faux pro" but now Im wishing I had gone that way instead.
