Garden visitors 2024

Nice, never know what you'll see in the garden. Every morning/evening when Phoebe goes out there's a little bunny rabbit friend waiting. They stand there looking at each other for several minutes, neither knowing quite what they should do. Sometimes Phoebe continues on, sometimes the rabbit hops away.

Harlie has a similar morning stand off with her squirrel nemesis.

I have a new visitor in the garden. First time seeing this hummingbird moth was last week but by the time I got my camera it was gone. This week it has been around every day and it doesn’t seem to care if I get a little close with the zoom lens.

I’ve been working on a new series called bugs in flight. Here’s a preview.

@SquarePeg WOW, OMG, lol...I go to arboretums from time to time and I don't see that level of activity...you must have the Greenest (is that spelled correctly... lol) and Sweetest of Nectar as a result...enjoy your garden (I am sure you put a lot of hard work and sweat into your garden)...God Bless!

Thanks so much! I have a mix of host plants and pollen and nectar plants. It’s been so much fun watching them all go about their business. Yesterday a butterfly chased a hummingbird out of the garden. Twice. I would have thought in a battle between a butterfly and a hummingbird that the hummingbird would be the aggressor. But surprising, it was the other way around!

Today’s flutterings…

Viceroy. Not sure if this is a male or female. This is the one that chased the hummingbird out of the garden yesterday. I thought it was a monarch, but somebody in one of my butterfly groups set me straight!

Monarch - bigger and paler than the Viceroy and doesn’t have that black line on the lower wings.

Sienna - she’s a cocker spaniel King Charles Cavalier mix. Harlie and I were puppy sitting today while my friend went to the dentist. She’s a frisky little love bug!
