It is very flat.. was that intentional? It looks sort of "Vintage tinted" ... very dull... needs contrast. No blacks.. and the only white is your watermark...

I should give you grief about that watermark... lol!

Hey Jess, are you using LR4? If so go over to Free Lightroom Presets - Black & White HDR Presets for Landscapes « Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Killer Tips Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Killer Tips and down load the presets and try them. The HDR preset could possibly make this one pop in b&w.

I assume the low contrast is because it's snowing.

If so, it still feels not quite right. I think I would push the whole histogram over to the left, make the blacks black, and then tweak the middle and lighter tones to re-create the feeling of the original light.

Not sure I'm digging it as a composition, but I'm gonna think about it a bit. Feels sort of New Topographics. Maybe it's just a technical exercise, though? I don't see any seams so, on that front, success!

Ya know what? Screw contrast lol it's my "style"

kidding. I actually just suck with contrast in post. It always looks to be too much, no matter how slight the adjustment or type of adjustment used. I did add a bit of a matte style processing, perhaps that's the "vintage tint" you referred to?

Thr snow was SO bright, so I added a vignette at 5% opacity.

I use PS. I have some be actions, but I'm finding I don't like them so much. Also not entirely sure how I feel about this photo. It's okay, but not what I was going for at all in my original vision. Back to the drawing board.

Also, in defense of the mark. I put this on everything now, nice and big and distracting, after having some stuff stolen and altered.

i like the crop. Did you do anything else to it? On my phone at the moment, can't flip back an forth or view big enough to compare.

So I'll come out with it.

I want so badly to master the Brenizer effect. Not to copy what Ryan has already done, but to apply it to what I already consider "me". I've got the shooting pattern down and am getting good stitch results, but I effed up the DoF on this by shooting at f/4. Last time I tried this, I shot at 1.8, but still didn't have the isolation that I wanted.

So damn frustrating.

Since you're shooting a crop sensor, you're may find yourself needing to use a longer lens and more shots than the tutorials give, to get the same effect.

what focal length would you suggest? I used a 50mm for this.

It would make sense that I'd need more shots with the longer focal length. Glad I didn't ask what I almost did lol
