Great Falls National Park is a great resource near the DC area. A lot of members of the US Olympic kayak squad used to train there (Davey Hearns, Eric Jackson and others) b/c of the fast moving water, drops in elevation, big waves, and rocks. So shooting it in winter, with ice flows, snow, and icicles is a special treat. This day with wind chill it was below 0 and pretty bad. But the scenery was lovely. It was especially nice once the sun started to come up and glint off of some ice, to put the rocks "on fire."

nice! I've been really meaning to get out there one of these days.

Great photos! That looks like an area that could be very photogenic year-round.

Nice images. The first one is my favourite. I agree with f4s - year round possibilities. I bet some close-ups of the icicles could be neat.

It's absolutely photogenic year-round. The catch is: the gates don't open until 7am (which means you need to go in winter in order to shoot a sunrise).
