Hai! :)

For starters my name is Demara aka Sweets, pleased to meet you. :)

I'm a college student, and I've always had a thing for art and photography in general since middle school. However, over the years I bounced around from deciding what I wanted to do with my life. I went from saying I wanted to be a vet to a graphic designer to a nurse and now I'm thinking about photography as a career. I did photography in middle school and had a blast. Now I'm taking a photography class in college and I love it, it's fun, it's a challenge but it's fun. Can be frustrating at times, but overall fun. I learned how to use Adobe Lightroom 5 and it's great.

When it comes to what would I like to photograph, that's a good question, I love many things, from people, animals, food, nature, events such as weddings, graduation, concerts, nature, travel, I love it. I don't know if I'll be able to stick to just one thing. Sometimes I wonder if I'm making the right choice, I wonder it and at the same time, I don't have any doubts about it ( is that good, bad or both? .-. ) I just always had this thought for a long time now since I was in high school, just sharing whatever I love with the world but also turning it into a career, being able to show people there's still good in this world and I would love to show people that. I know with practice and of course being in school will help me get better as I go along and I feel good with this.

I've read about the requirements when it comes to photography and I read how it requires a lot of experience and that some type of photography job will require a higher degree. Which is fine by me, I don't have a problem with both.

Urgh. I feel excited to change my major to fine arts with a concentration in photography.

Also, here on two photos that I love a lot that I worked on in class, feel free to critic me! :D I'm open to it.

Welcome aboard.

Hi Demara: Welcome aboard. And good luck with whatever you decide. First off, thanks for being brave by posting your photos and asking for a critique. Second, I'm not a pro or a photo or art teacher. So take my critique with a grain of salt. It's only how I see it. Others will see it differently.

The dog is a cutie. You caught its sweetness. Mine died three years ago and I still miss him. One thing about dogs. They're short like children. So we tend to shoot down at them. Very impersonal. So here's what you do. Squat. Get down on your butt or knees to shoot. Or get a camera that has one of those LED displays where you can swing the viewer so you can hold the camera down at eye level with the dog while you're standing and looking down into the screen.. Guaranteed to improve your shots of dogs and kids 100%. Another thing is you need catch lights in the eyes so they don't look dead. Same for people. Add a fill flash to accomplish this. Just enough for the catch light in the eyes. Also, don't be afraid to zoom in. If you're going to crop part of the animal, then really do it. Don't leave half his legs. Either go for them complete, or focus in on the cute dog's face. Right now there doesn't seem to be enough breathing room. The dog seems cramped in the frame.

The parrots are really colorful. But it seems like you couldn't make up your mind which to shoot so you shot both. However, the one on the left is hidden and adds nothing to the picture. It actually detracts from the other parrot. Be patient. Wait for the one on the right to be the only parrot or until the left parrot is looking at either the camera or the other parrot. Again, you cropped too tight. The parrot on the right seems cramped with no breathing room.

So good luck again and enjoy whatever you do. Alan.

Welcome!

FYI; you should post your photos to show up as a photo, not just a link.

I'm curious as to what you meant by "worked on in class". Does that mean you are learning digital editing in class?

Why not find a local photographer or photography club to join and see if you like it or if you can find a mentor? You took one class and you found a great interest in photography. That's great! But, that doesn't mean you should jump to another career path. Look into it first from a perspective of working in the field rather from an outsider's view in a class. Look at incomes based on careers in the various fields. Do you have the skills required? The startup cash for equipment? Are you good at sales? You'll be a salesperson on top of photographer.

Not trying to sway you one way or the other. Just trying to get you to think about the big picture.
