about these $12 extension tubes? Well I tried them out yesterday and was not impressed. It was a huge PITA not to be able to adjust aperture. After a while I gave up even using my focus ring and just moved closer/farther away from my subject to focus. I doubt these will ever go on my camera again, but hey...it was sorta fun...makes me want a real macro.

That's kinda how focusing works in the land of extreme macro..

Here is a wee tip page, set your apetuer to what you want it to be and press the DOF preview button. Keep it pressed and remove your lens. Then attach the extension tubes and you will havea fixed aaperture to play with. A word of warning though, it will make the viewfinder dark.

Interesting...I may try that. I read on amazon to switch it to video, select aperture then attach tubes and back to photo. But that didn't work :/

The trouble is that to get your focus your lens stays wide open until you press the shutter. It's a popular work around. Must admit though that anything less than full sunlight can be pretty hard to focus on. I found pretty quick that extension tubes also need an ocf and bracket too to freeze the motion as shutter speeds can be slow and camera shake can be a real problem. They aren't as good as. £600 lens but then they were only $12 and you can get some great results if you put a bit of time into learning how to use them!

It is a bit of a shock at first though!
