Tim's rules for Hebridean sunsets:

1) Go to the Outer Hebrides

2) Wait for sunset, (this can be 10.30pm in mid summer so the only real decision is how many glasses of wine you have with dinner before you stagger down to the beach, whisky in one hand and camera in t'other).

As WeePete has already noted, there has been relatively high pressure around for a while so a lot of haze. But a trough, or something, passed through (heavy downpours with thunder further in the mainland) with a time of unstable air which didn't lift the haze but changed the nature of it. I was down on the beach again, glass of whisky in hand... :D:D
