Folks, I'm in "super Zilker Botanical Gardens, Austin, TX mode" this week and next as it's my final two weeks working at an office that's only a 3 minute drive to the park. I move to a new building at Beecaves and 360 in two weeks. I will really miss taking lunch breaks at the Zilker Botanical Gardens!

All shots taken with a Canon EOS 30D, Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 USM Macro, and this DIY Ring-Flash

#1 Hedgehog Fly (Scotiptera sp, undescribed, Tachinidae)

Shame. Frogs usually make good models, they tend to sit quietly waiting for you to get your shots :). I guess there's a lesson to learn here - You're better off taking the time to set a tripod up and use more natural techniques for the light than to flash a frog ;-).

I hadn't noticed before, but any idea what that lump is on the bee's leg in shot 7? Looks like some form of abscess! Such a cute bee too, I could almost stroke her!

I say all of them are amazing shots with excellent details.
Well done.

Robstar's saying it all.
Wow.
I once more wish I had a proper macro lens and a softbox for my Speedlite.

Nice shots there Lex!!

I really like the fly shots, great detail!

Wow... those really suck... You're such a beginner!

J/K.. gotcha!

Seriously tho, those rock! I love 1, 4, and 7 especially! GJ

I really love your photos lextalionis, your a great inspiration. And you make my photos look crap, haha. What settings did you use for the fly ones?

Beautiful pictures! I feel bad you are moving away from Zilker, but you will be close to Wild Basin Preserve. Beats being next to I35 and 1325 in Round Rock. I don't even bother to bring my camera to work.......
