Dropped by the Helitack base here in our county yesterday.
It us a Bell UH-U1 'Huey' which originally served in Vietnam. Since then it has been upgraded to meet the Fire Dept's needs, including engine and transmission upgrades, 300gal water tank with snorkel, and personnel hoist.
The helicopter is primarily used for fighting wildland fires, but also has rescue capabilities. Also, although it does not function as a medical provider and transport, the crew is able to provide emergency medical care while on a state or federal wildfire.
