I personally think the cactus dead center is what makes the photo interesting, hence why I composed it that way. I like symmetry. I tried different compositions and I thought they were rather dull. I think centering the subject worked rather well for my tastes.

I would like to know if you dislike the centering because of the pre-conceived idea to move your subject from the center (taught by just about every photo book I've ever read), or if you truly think it looks bad.

The symmetry and converging light blue sky makes the photo work for me.

I like 19 and 34. I live in Nevada ...lots of desert. It can be tough shooting desert, but you did a very good job.
