I am new to the DSLR world and looking at purchasing a used Nikon D50, primarily for nature photography. Research is telling me, around 50000 shutter clicks is average before maintenance may be required. If the camera I am considering already has 20K on it, is it worth spending $90 on it? I'm not getting any extras, just what comes in a "base" kit. Thoughts.....

Only $90 and you will get 30,000 more clicks and comes with a lens? Of course that's a decent deal. MPB has them with no lens from $60 to $75.

But you know your new phone may take just as good a pic as an old 6MP camera. Maybe better. Unless you need a really long telephoto lens for your intended nature shots.

What would you recommend for someone just getting started, who wants to take better pictures than her phone, can accommodate a zoom lense but isn't going to overwhelming my wallet(trying to stay under $250)? I am open to any and all suggestions AND ALL help is greatly appreciated!

Her are the type of specs that you should start looking at. Any of the major brands are good stuff.

This camera is 15mp and still new enough to be a good camera. A 18 to 50 lens has you covered for wide to normal shots, and a 100 to 300 telephoto for 6our nature shots.

mpb.com and Ken.com among others have a good reputation for used gear. I think they also have a 1 or 2 week no questions asked return policy.

These will just put you over your budget but still less than $300.
