Why is thier a small halo above the bird? Im thinking cheap tripod. ... or ?

Looks like chromatic aberration. Happens when you have a lot of contrast such as the white feathers against a darker background. Use the exposure comp to bring down the exposure a stop and it should help.

Asside from that. Great shot.

the first photo looks a little soft but its a good photo.. the second one looks really good.

the highlights on his head are blow out against a dark background and your lens probably does not like that. A slightly darker exposure could possibly help, not sure if its ghosting

if the highlights were not blown out that may not have happened.... i don't see it as being a huge problem, the photo still looks good but it would definitely be better if it were not there..

i have not read this article but i found it and it may be helpfull Avoiding Image Halos - Duncan Fawkes - Australian Landscape Photography

Thanks for the reply. I read the article. Good stuff to know. Also, i spent much more time processing the seconds one. Both are heavily cropped. Lessons learned.

200mm f4 1250th sec Iso 200.

Next time ill have my better tripod and maybe up the iso a bit and up the ss as well.

Blues bumped up a bit on bird and better sharpening.
