High ISO, sensor sizes - DP Review

DP Review has posted a very good article about high ISO ratings, and why they're a bunch of hype.

Also, I wanted to show the following comparison to people, esp. those who are constantly going on about MEGAPIXELS:

What do you think will happen when you have 10 million pixels on a full-frame sensor, and then cram that many (smaller, crappier) pixels on to a 1/1.8th sensor?!?!?!

Please read the article on their site, it's worth it.

DP Review High ISO article.

...it's their lenses that go with them and the quality of the chip. I have an 8MP consumer camera that's GREAT at ISO 100 or less but is extremely noisy above that. My Canon 20D shoots great images at ISO 800 with the same 8MP. There are many factors that influence image quality and the total number of pixels isn't it.

Uhh.... yes. Sort of. That's sort of the point being made, except that it IS the number of pixels - because you just CAN'T fit 10 million pixels on a sensor the size of a pinky fingernail. That's a large part of what defines "quality of the chip."
