Yes focus, you would have been much better shooting at ISO3200 or higher to get the shutter speed needed because they are also under exposed which dosn't help with noise, when shooting this sort of sport at night don't worry about using high iso's because a shot with noise is better than a shot with blur some noise can be removed

thanks for the advice I'll keep that in mind next time, but I was shooting for my school's yearbook so our editor asked for the cleanest shots possible while still being in focus, so even though only 10 out of 400 of my shots were usable, that was okay.

Very loose, sports should be very tight. Too much going on. I'm not the best either but I'm learning. This is what I have been told by a pro who is helping me. The problem is that to get tight you need 300mm or more, $$$$$$$$$$

They are all out of focus, personally I would have deleted them all. Frame 3 if you just cropped tight on the two players you could save this one. It's really too bad about a few of the others as you are on the action. No focus, no picture.

interesting... I am very sure that my lens locked on focus before I took the shot, but maybe it's not 100% focus.

Yeah I know! I'm a high school student so I can't afford a 300mm 2.8 lens . I need 2.8 because varsity games are usually played at night. I know exactly what you mean I wish I had longer reach..

Long glass is very expensive. Wait and move around the field more. If you build a good portfolio, when you go to college hopefully the student paper will bring you on board and let you use their stuff.
