well.. #2 looks a bit.. oversaturated? #1 as well, but i think to a lesser extent.

I like #1 better composition wise aswell.

If you look at the sky there are 0 details left, pure white. To avoid it you would have had to expose for the sky and use fill flash, or you could have tried a ND, or CPL filter, but I think your subject would have still been too dark. I would have positioned my self a little left and tried to shoot to avoid the sky at all. Yes I too think it looks way oversaturated though as well.
