What's new

holloween

I guess I don't see what you saw...?

Yeah, Pink just about nailed it. I was looking for something interesting, or photo-worthy in your picture. However I can't seem to find anything that fits that description.

Halloween by the way.

The photo is underexposed and has insufficient depth of field.

Since you only posted a link, I can't just scroll down and refer to the photo again to make anymore comments than that.

:( geez sorry i posted it... just thought it was something different,
and i only been shooting with a camera for less than a couple weeks... I was excited about it. i apologize for disgracing your eyes with such a horrid image.. and such terrible spelling.. the nerve of myself.

Well, what appeals to you about the image, and why? What is aesthetically pleasing about it? What is the subject of the photo? What drew you to the pumpkin in the first place?

You really have to ask yourself these kinds of questions if you want to understand composition and what makes for good subject matter as well.

appeal: bright orange
subject: inside of pumpkin
drew me: we were carving pumpkins at work i saw the open non- gutted pumpkin and decided to shoot it.

this wasnt some prize shot i claimed to have.
im a noob.. i dont understand under/overexposure's I dont understand field of depth
i dont know any calculations

all i did was see a bright colored gourd.. took a picture of it and had fun doing it.

So now you have a starting point for lotsa learnin'.

all i did was see a bright colored gourd.. took a picture of it and had fun doing it.
and that's all that really matters. However, you posted on a forum full of people who are interested in more than just snapshots. Did you come here to learn?

Okay, well are we supposed to roll over and say that anything with a "bright orange" in it is photographically sound or compositionally correct? If that were the case, there would be a lot of great photos, particularly of Orange Groves, or goldfish right? Wrong.

The subject, as you see it, is the inside of a Pumpkin. What should I be looking at? What should draw my eye in? What should hold my attention for more than a second? There isn't anything that does that.

I'm glad the photo appeals to you, but if you're looking for universal appeal, you came to the wrong place.

If you have a D300s, and don't know what "depth of field" or "exposure (under or over)" relates to, I suggest you READ YOUR MANUAL as a very first step.

Holloween is a good title though, so you have a knack for that. I think a better shot would be taken from inside a carved pumpkin, looking out through the eyes or something. Cut a big hole in the back for your camera to shoot through and hole in the bottom to let some candle light in.

dude I wasnt looking for any type of anything.. all i did was innocently post a friggin photo.. I do read my manual and found this place the other day. i spend all my free time doing nothing but hunting for knowledge. I posted in photography beginners forum and photo gallery because thats obviously what i am... I wasnt excepting you guys to discover the secret of life inside of my pumpkin. there is no epiphany that lies in the pumpkin... All i wanted to do was share one of my first pics I took.. I sure learned my lesson...
