The light o' day fades o'er a fine lot o' birds bagged and waiting to be cleaned for what will be a grand meal shared amongst special friends.

I'll cast no judgement on that other than to say what you eat is likely not near as fresh as my game birds. From field directly to the kitchen, no additives, preservatives, etc. As said, to each his own.

I used to hunt pheasants as a young man. Gosh...I love fried pheasant. If there's any quarrel I have with you, it's your preference for an over/under...everybody knows a side by side is the better double barrel shotgun...

A fine round body vintage side by side in a sub gauge is on me bucket list. It may happen some day. In the meantime my Browning White Lightning Grade III in 20 bore seems to keep me on bead with woodcock, grouse, and pheasant in fine style.

If I had it my way, I'd live out west in really great bird country, but my wife would never make that move. like you, I love my turkey hunting and I live to hunt duck and geese, so I have a nice mix of those opportunities here in the northeast. It's really mostly about the dog work for me.
