Hello,

I am trying to figure out a computer build for a home theater PC
If anyone knows anything about his type of thing please feel free to comment, I will appreciate any feedback.

We plan to use this PC as a family media center in the kitchen/family room, using google calendar for all of our daily work scheduling and the kids activities as well. We have an adept 6 year old and a wannabe 3.5 year old so the pc will be up out of reach. They get to touch the wall mounted monitor, wireless keyboard and mouse.
We are cable free so all of our media entertainment is downloaded. We will be using the pc to view several IP cams and record zone violations & email them out to us.
Looking for some type of remote control that can navigate a windows 7 or 8 O/S
Hoping it is possible to run from audio out to a sound system. We hope to use it to run daytime ambient elevator music through in wall speakers and also to power the theater.
Wondering if the HDMI output from the motherboard transmits audio as well? Or would one require to use the green headphone jack?

Thanks for reading this :)

Not an expert but I have a little experience in this area.
Remote: Many available, Logitech Harmony is very sweet but kind of pricey. I use XBMC media center, it has a smartphone app for control, maybe there is an app for windows media center? not sure but it may be an option.
Audio: HDMI should transmit audio. Also for sending audio to a seperate sound system, that board you linked to has optical S/PDIF out if your sound system is able to accept it. Another side note: There are boards made specifically for HTPC's that have several "RCA jack" audio outputs and digital coaxial audio as well.

Hi Pharmakon,

Thanks for your reply.

We dont have an amp/receiver chosen yet, thanks for the s/pdif lead, Im going to read up on that.
In regards to the motherboard, omg its all so confusing. This build that I postedm is pretty much a copy of this guys build I ran across on youtube.
So you mean I can find a new mb with rca outs and a cpu that is compatible and then build it all from there with all the same components listed above?

Have a great weekend, hope you get some good shots!!
