I just purchased my first DSLR recently. I haven't done anything in photography since the 35mm days as a teenager with my dad. I always loved night photography, so I immediately went downtown to try to capture something.

Spur of the moment, so I didn't get to the best location for the kind of composition I wanted, so I know it isn't the best in that regard.

This is very minimal processed since I'm a nood with photo-editing software and tools. I would like some honest critique. Please don't hold back. Trying to grow here.

It looks over saturated, to cold in my opinion. What is your EXIF data?

Was a starlight filter used? If not must have been long over 1/30 to make lamp polls like that.

It is very cold, yes. But the saturation was not altered in any way. Actually, the color wasn't altered at all.

Nikon D5200
75-240mm taken at 75mm
15 second exposure at f/18 ISO 100

No filters at all either. We have a lot of light pollution in the city. I don't recall seeing stars actually. This was right before last light.

I have the D5200. Was it set to HDR mode? It does look over processed and that often happens in HDR photos. I can see slight haloing around the buildings and that usually indicates over processing or HDR.

Next time you take the shot I would bump the F-stop down to around 8.
