I am an amateur looking to learn.
Is this dreamy, painted effect something that is done mainly through photo editing software or lighting etc? I would like to get a photographer to take photos in this style but want to learn what kind of techniques go into achieving something like this.

I wouldn't be thrilled to have my subjects' hair disappear into the background. It appears to be just diffuse lighting.

BTW, posting images that aren't yours is against forum rules.

Take a photo of someone wearing good makeup. Shoot against a black background. Use even lighting from the front and no light from the back or hair light. Post a low-resolution copy on the internet.
