How to achieve this effect?

Hi everyone, I recently came across these images and wanted to know how to get those effects, especially the skies in the national geographic one and that of the wedding. I hope to know their secrets:mrgreen:

I'll take a hit at #2 - the wedding one.
higher shutter speed on a sunny day with B&G blocking the sun thus you get a silhouette. If using a flash to light them up, it won't look like a silhouette obviously by it'll definitely emphasize your subject.

the sky looks like its a grad filter.. but it can also be acheived in PP by adding a Grad Filter, filter..
