How to create the HDR effect?

Can anyone possibly explain to me step by step how to create the HDR effect in Photoshop Elements 11. I am fairly new to photoshop, I used to use a free basic editor online which had an HDR effect installed in, click and the photograph would turn HDR however I am now wanting to create manual HDR photographs but I have no idea how to create the desired effect. If anyone could do a step by step tutorial for me, I'd really appreciate it. I also struggle to find Photoshop Elements tutorials as the majority seem to use CS4 and the likes. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

Manual HDR is made by making multiple images of a high dynamic range scene and then blending them together post process.
It takes at least 3 exposures - one to properly expose the highlights in the scene, one to properly expose the shadows in the scene, and one to properly expose the mid-range of the scene.

The professional grades of Photoshop have gotten better for blending multiple exposures for making HDR images, but Photomatix Pro and a couple of other dedicated HDR software applications do a better job.

In fact, many of the best HDRs are made using a dedicated HDR application, and a pro grade version of Photoshop. The combined images are moved back and forth between the 2 applications several times before it becomes a finished image.
