Take the hardrive to a friends house even. Open up their comp. and drop in your hardrive. Copy over everything you need and get them to burn it to dvd for you.

Is the CIH Virus still in circulation or is it extinct now? If a destructive virus like CIH is activated you're looking at buying a new PC (MB, memory and HDD at least):x

You know what I forgot to mention was that I downloaded microsoft security updates from the microsoft site yesterday morning. So at the risk of sounding even more stupid....could it be something like a missing dll?

My hard drive crashed a couple of weeks ago. Looked like some DLL file was missing but it was a full blown crash. With the help of a good friend who works at a computer repair place, he was able to save (mirror) all of my data to a new hard drive. I got my computer back, plugged it in and it was exactly like it was before the crash. Bace is right - Enlist the help of someone computer savy and see if you can't get back up and running with all of your files intact. :hugs:
