i want to buy a nikon d60. i would like a wide lense and a long lense which is the same as 12x zoom on my old point and shoot. Which lenses should i buy?

Well it depends on what P&S you had they are going to have different starting and ending focal lengths but they both could have the same 12x zoom that you are talking about. The best chose you could get on a budget would be the 18-55 and the 55-200 VR the 18-55 will most likely come with your camera and the 55-200 VR is only about $220. If you want some more reach you could get the 70-300G about $180 or the 70-300 VR about $500. You may want to say away from the "do-it all" lens they will most likely give poorer results.
