I need some help

Hey all, I have to do a portrait for my drawing class, and I'm not too fond of the composition of the picture I'm drawing from, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Does anyone know who or what this sculpture is? I've asked on so many different forums and no one seems to know.

I don't know why my teacher cut it off like that. I could make up the neck and chest, but I don't want to. Help?
