Identifying camera - Alec Soth Looking for Love

I have been enamoured by Alec Soth's images in his book Looking for Love and am really intrigued by what camera he used.

Anyone have any guesses/insight? Some images seem large format, but the more close-up shots and portraits are making me wonder what camera was used.

I am on the hunt for a new camera.
