If you would go to a trip and could take only one lens with you from your own collection what would it be ?

Not an easy question for me to answer.

One option is getting the 60mm 2.8G which I found is extrodinarily sharp, good for night photograhpy, portraits and macro.
Second will be my 24-85mm 3.5-4.5 VR which is very sharp, gives me great range and is fairly fast even in reasonsably lower light condition.

My other lenses are too specialised to be a lens I would carry to do "it all"

I think I would take the 24-85mm VR

From my trip to the rockies I found I mostly used this lens, as I said its sharp and has a very usable focal range especially since its a full frame lens on my crop sensor camera.

It's usually the 24-70 2.8 for me, though with the FF camera now I've been tempted to take the 70-200 2.8 VR2.

It is an easy choice with me. 16-85 VR - compact, durable, decent quality and covers a wide focal range.

It would depend on where I was going, and what I wanted to shoot!

Is there going to a lots of cool bugs? (Macro 105) plus multiple flashes

are there wonderful lanscapes? (probably 24-70 2.8 as the 14-24 2.8 is too limited) plus ND, GNDs, tripod, etc..

Are there neat birds and other larger critters? (70-200 2.8.. and maybe my 1.4 extender)

What am I most interested in shooting where I am going?

This is why I carry a 45 lb backpack when I go on vacation... lol!

In general my kit 18-105 VR has kinda grown on me for it's flexibility. Really good at alot of things, except low light.
But I would sneak in my 50 f/1.8 or 24 f/2.8 as they are so small anyways for better low light ability if I thought I would need that too. :)

I can't answer that question. One of the primary reasons I use a DSLR (and an SLR in the past) is the ability to change lenses to suit what I'm doing. If I just wanted one lens I'd get a point-and-shoot and be done with it.

What type of trip? General vacation type? Then it will be a fast standard zoom lens (My Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8) . If I allow to take one more, it will be a fast telephoto prime (85mm f/1.8).

Note: On a cropped sensor body. Or just take the G11 instead

My pancake 8-800 f1.2

Easy, 35mm 1.8, it takes 80% of my shots anyway (APS-C body)

I'm torn between my 24-85 and my 70-200/2.8...I like both of those zooms.

my 35mm 1.8. Does everything I need it to do.
