I was lucky to catch this sleepy guy in Cades Cove, outside of Townsend, TN this past week end. Every little bit he would lift his head; look at me and immediately floppy back down for some more slumber. He acted as though he had no concerns about my presence. Luckily, a US Ranger came along and would not let me get any closer. Otherwise, I am dumb and brave enough that I would likely have gotten close enough to get my face and a few extremities bitten off.

This was taken with a 70-200 with a 2x TC

Nice shot. He doesn't look all that big, I bet you could have taken him if he decided to try anything.

Yeah, he just looked like a sleepy teddy bear up there. His mother, on the other hand, was right below him, and was of much more concern.

lol He so cute!
Thanks for posting! It was a nice little giggle to start the day!

That's how I feel most days. Even up to mauling people that get too close to me too early in the morning.mGet him some coffee and he'll be alright!

Forrest Gump said it best when it comes to mama bears and their cubs...

The smaller, the faster! Top speed of a black bear: 25mph. Top speed of a photographer: faster than your assistant.

And always make your assistant carry all the heavy gear, just in case you need to run and any snack you might have brought.

You didn't tell us about the "mother". Glad you had a Plan A and a Plan B.

Black bears are extremely dangerous.
