Can others edit my Photos
Photos NOT OK to edit
Went out tonight, before the thunder storms, with some friends from 8thCivic.com to get some shots of their cars. Also one of the members bought my Pentax K-x so I was teaching him how to use it.

Anyway, here's a few shots from the evening:

Then came the storms and I happened to snag this keeper out of 25 long exposures.

The cars are all 5 exposure HDR Images, if anyone cared.

C&C is always welcomed ;)

Number 1 is a great shot! The angle and location of the car is perfect, making the shadows dramatic looking.

Personally, the HDR's are overcooked for my taste. Bad halos around each of the vehicles.

I definitely like the lightning grab though, good job

it is a lil over cooked but with that sky, it works. the truck kinda looks off balance but the first two are killer. good job

Overcooked? Perhaps. Normally, I cannot stand HDR...it's right down there with selective color as a hackneyed technique. But in these photos, I see more skill, more style, more conceptualization, than I was expecting from you when I opened the thread. As I said, I loathe HDR....and I'm not a big fan of rice nor of trucks (American muscle is more my style), but you know, each one of your car pics made me stop, and look, and appreciate something to be found in it. EACH shot. I look at a lot of photos in a typical day. I evaluate each shot I see, and what I like, and what I dislike. On shots 1 and 2, you have good framing. The truck has a nice sky in it, and the placement of the tire in relation to the parking space stripe is excellent. Overall, I sense a "style" developing. Which is really something to be proud of.

Thank you!

Admittedly, I just got Photomatix 4, so I'm still learning the program (hence posting in the Beginners section) but for some reason, I liked the "halo" effect on these. Granted, I know it's not usually a "wanted" thing in HDR's, I just didn't remove it because I felt it lent a sort of pseudo-vignette effect to the cars, almost highlighting them. But I thank you for the comment and I definitely see your point...it's something I'll work on!

Wow, thank you Derrel! You took the time to thoughtfully critique and it's much appreciated, believe me. The compliments are also much appreciated, coming from a respected member of the forum & a great photographer in your own right.

Again, I don't normally do HDR, I'm more of a strobist kind of guy...I use flash to balance exposures, but this day it was about to rain and I wanted to step out of my comfort zone to try something new. It wasn't a paid gig, so I wasn't worried about getting the money shot...which is why I think these really turned out great. The more I shoot, the more I realize I need to relax with the technical stuff and let the creativity take over.

Anyway, enough rambling, thanks for the comments & views folks, it's much appreciated! :D

Halo's. Halo's. Halo's. (you got that part)

Generic car orientation. You could literally copy and paste each car into each scene because each pose is the same. Change it up a lil.

Good skies though.

I agree with Derrel in that they look better on your web page. This style would, IMO, suite more high end vehicles. But I do like. Tell the owner of the black civic to wash and wax his shyt! The wash in wax comment is from the link Derrel posted, not the image you posted on this site though.

IT MIGHT BURN RICE...but it's a good-looking car!!!

These all look better on YOUR web server...

Thanks again Derrel! Indeed, SmugMug does a great job of hosting photos, I'm very pleased with their service :D

That's exactly why I didn't post that photo...his car was dirty and we've had rain for 7 days in a row, so he didn't bother. I wish he would have though, washed & waxed black cars look amazing.

I'm currently looking for some more hi-end cars to shoot, but since it's my own personal work (not paid) it takes a back seat to booking real gigs. Soon though, I'll have some 57 Chevy's, and other nice old muscle cars. I'm a car-nut ;)

Number 2 REALLY jumped out at me. I love the halo look around it. With that color blue it looks almost electric. Very nice job!
