Raj commented on being interested in the inland tiapan I put up on my flickr yesterday. Because of this I went through my raws and made a set. This was a captive animal, despite much searching I am yet to see one in the wild. Inland tiapans are the worlds most venomous snake by far based on the LD50 test. My background being zoology though, I have to add that the LD50 test is not always a reliable indicator of venom potency in humans.

Well you just keep them where they are :) Snakes we don"t have and its always great to see things new. Very nicely taken and good fine sharp shots, no doubt about it. Great colours and details/textures in these shots.

All the best, love that second shot !!

Danny.

Great great shots Daniel.. You said they were captive, were these taken in a zoo or somewhere else?

For those who are wondering how poisonous is the most poisonous, a single bite from them is supposed to have enough venom to kill a quarter million mice

Fine shots, Daniel. I was planning to visit you until I saw these pets you keep... Lee

It is an animal at the local zoo Raj, I know some workers there.

Visit anytime Lee haha. While you would almost certainly see plenty of snakes, this species is very hard to find even when you are looking for them.

It may just be me but i'm thinking the fact that they are the worlds most venomous snake is a really good reason to NOT go looking for them :blushing:

But nice shots Daniel

I always thought the Coral snake was the most poisonous...but then I heard the daddy long legs was too. :D

On land it's #1 on the top ten deadliest but the Belchers sea snake is the most venomous known in the world and just a few milligrams of poison is enough to kill 1000 people. Nice shots.

Thanks DarkShadow for bringing that up. It is a bit of a myth that gets around. At least in terms of LD50 test (which is not super accurate as I said in OP, but the best we have unfortunately). Belchers comes in at 0.24 mg/kg when delivered intramuscularly where as inland tiapan comes in at 0.025 mg/kg. Thats a huge difference. A few websites state to the contrary but they are wrong. Don't know who wrote them and based on what papers haha.

I don't want to be around any of them, Scary stuff for sure. What's amazing is how fast some snakes can strike and how many times before most even know they have been bitten.
