inside d40's battery slot

i was looking at my d40 for no reason at all and took out the battery. Inside the battery compartment there are the standard 3 silver connectors for the battery but i also notice that there are also 5 gold pin holes and 2 square pin connectors. Does anybody have any idea what this could be for? I would think it would be for a battery grip to use shutter release without IR but none of the 6 or so grips have that feature, as the all seem to use IR to shutter release.

So what do you think these gold contacts/pin holes are for?

They could well be for a diagnostic connector that Nikon (or any authorised repairer) might use to proble/update the workings of the camera.

That would explain why there is no mention of them in any user literature.

If it's not used by the battery grip it'll most likely be as stated above. This is very similar to most mobile phones. Most have a system management bus connection under the battery or the sim card which is usually the first stop for any repair man since it gets at the innards without grabbing a screwdriver.

This extra pins when fused release all of the D300 capabilities on the D40... Nikon really only makes 2 DSLR's... they just cap the capabilities on the lower model camera's....

If you would like to enjoy all of the D300 capabilities on your D40.. simply fuse the two pins together with a paper clip and enjoy..:lmao:
