Hello everyone.

I’ve been printing my photography on glossy paper, but the reflections and fingerprints keep driving me crazy.

I want something with a light texture that still gives deep blacks and smooth tonal transitions.

Has anyone here tried UltraPro Satin 270 on an aqueous inkjet printer? I’m curious how the medium-depth texture looks on black and white work, and whether the colors stay vibrant.

Also, did you need custom printer profiles or settings to get the best results?

Any real-world experience, tips, or comparisons with other satin papers would be really appreciated.

I don't use Ultra Pro Satin 270, but rather the heavier Ultra Pro Luster 300, either of which eliminates 80–90% of direct specular reflection compared to high-gloss. While not completely immune to finger oils, it is much more resistant than high-gloss. I prefer the heavier feel of the 300, and I also use Moab Lasal Exhibition Luster 300, which has a slightly brighter surface.

The other consideration is that I print with an Epson ET 8550. It is a six-color printer with a photo black and a pigment black, and I am very happy with what I get, but a 10- or 12-color high-end printer is likely to get richer, deeper black and better color transitions.

I always use only paper with a manufacturer's profile. Red River specifies the exact driver setting to select (like Ultra Premium Photo Paper Luster or Premium Luster Photo Paper for Epson printers). Using the recommended media type ensures the printer lays down the exact volume of ink the paper's coating is engineered to absorb.
