It's a sad day when a girl cant shoot in RAW. (zoo trip)

We ventured into hell today (aka Denver) so the kids could make some good use of the zoo pass we were gifted. I left my Nikon at home, and brought the sony, thinking I would need a longer lens-but ended up finding most of my luck inside the tropical habitats. My computer is still down for the count, so in order to upload the files to my old laptop- I had to *gasp* shoot in jpeg. Nothing terribly spectacular I know, but It has been a long winter, and was nice to finally get out and shoot something!

One of the great parts of homeschooling is that you can go places like the zoo during the week when it's not packed and crazy. I think your nex-7 did good. Which lens did you go with?

On further thought, I realized that you were considering shooting in the raw.
I want to caution you that being nude in public places may be illegal and, I am certain, that after 20 or 30 minutes someone would call the police.

If asked, I will bail you out.

Thank you! I almost didnt post that one, because I was worried the angle was too...weird. I did like his colors though, so I figured I would throw it out there. Glad you like it!

Yes! Homeschooling has so many advantages we are able to enjoy, and less crowded field trips are definitely up there! We also get to enjoy so much more family time than public school would allow, since my husband holds a strange schedule. On the darker side of homeschooling- our last "friday" my son insisted we just HAD to start school an hour and a half early (8 am), worked until I forced him to quit so I could make dinner and ended the day by insisting that I read him two chapters in our math text for his "bedtime story" I told DH I need a "teacher off duty" shirt for mothers day! lol Someone help me explain to this child that MATH is not appropriate bedtime literature.

As for the lens- I took my 18-200. It usually does fine on the outdoor animals, plenty of good light. Indoors is much trickier, since the AF struggles or fails 50%+ of the time. Patience and some manual focus, seems to be the key there! I think shooting in JPEG was actually the NEX's saving grace yesterday. I usually cringe when shooting over 1600 iso but the in camera NR did a nicer job than I have ever been able to do in post. Someday, I will look into a better NR program.
