JPG file sizes

Confused here. A newspaper wants me to submit photos of between 6 and 8mb but not anything like 18mb. They didn't mention file types but suspect they are jpgs. I'm now wondering if they mean these files to be uncompressed. If these 6 and 8mb files are compressed, what size would they be?

JPEG is s compressed file type so ALL JPG files will be compressed.

Give them something about 3000 or 4000 px wide with good quality, that should fit the size they are asking for.

Yep. JPEG is a lossy, compressed file type.

If you use LR or Photoshop the Export/Save As dialog Quality setting controls the files size.
In LR you can specify the Export file size (Limit file size to: )
While LR has a 1 to 100 quality setting Photoshop has a 1-12 Quality setting

Thanks for your replies. I've found out that these are 8mb images uncompressed and compressed they turn out to be around 6mb.
