July 20, 1969 and 57 Years Later

Neil Armstrong landed on the moon on July 20, 1969. The Apollo 11 Lunar Module Eagle touched down on the lunar surface at 4:17 p.m. EDT, and Armstrong became the first human to step onto the moon a few hours later at 10:56 p.m. EDT.

Tonight, while overnighting in Superior, Nebraska's city park, I went outside around the same time (9:56 pm CST) and snapped a shot of the moon, exactly 57 yrs later.

Attached is a picture of where Apollo 11 landed, and I've highlighted and zoomed-in on the same location.....they named three tiny craters after the three astronauts....just for reference, the Armstrong crater is 2.5 miles across.....

My little camera can ONLY resolve the Ritter, Sabine, and Moltke craters.... Which I think is pretty darn good, considering the little camera, lens, the hot air of today's 101° temps here causing distortion..... There's just NO WAY I can resolve the three tiny astronaut craters....AINT HAPPENING!

But it's still pretty darn cool

Very cool stuff. When Apollo 11 took off we were vacationing in Daytona Beach, Florida. We watched the liftoff on TV, and by going out on our hotel patio and looking south. Great times indeed.
