I think what's hurting these shots is being able to see the bird feeder - not very pretty. Also - the quality seems kind of poor. Were these cropped from a much larger photo or taken through a window maybe?
I read a suggestion in another thread for these kind of shots. They said to pay attention to where the birds land when waiting for their turn at the feeder, have your camera trained to that spot, and then sit back and wait. That way you dont have to worry about the unattractive birdfeeder in your shots.
With all of that being said - I think you've caught some really interesting moments. Crazy to be able to see the tongue!
